Leave the room where the fire is and get out straight away CLOSE the door behind you this could contain the fire in that room for up to 30 minutes.
Tell everyone in your Flat and get them to leave ensure that you CLOSE the Flat entrance door behind you (this will prevent the spread of smoke and flames into the communal area which may be someone else’s escape route)
Do not stay behind to put the fire out
Wait outside away from the building
Call the fire and rescue services dial 999 or 112
If you see or hear a fire in another part of the building
The building is designed to contain a fire in the Flat where it starts this means it will usually be safe for you to stay in your own Flat if the fire is elsewhere until the emergency services arrive and lead you to a place of safety
You must also leave immediately if heat or smoke affects your own Flat or if you are told to do so by the Fire and Rescue Services
If there is a lift do not use it
If in doubt get out
