Homes for Ukraine

Posted on the 18th March 2022

The government has launched the ‘Homes for Ukraine’ scheme to enable people living in the UK to host Ukrainian refugees – individuals or families. We know that some Keniston residents want to help, if they can, and we want to help make this possible.

Anyone in the UK (of any nationality and any immigration status providing they have at least six months leave to remain in the UK) with spare space can come forward to help. Accommodation must be available for at least 6 months, be fit for people to live in, and suitable for the number of people to be accommodated.

There are more FAQs available on the Government website, but here is a summary of what has been confirmed so far:

  • People who provide accommodation through the scheme will be offered a thank you payment of £350 per month per residential address. You will not be expected to cover the costs of food and living expenses. If you are already getting benefits, these will continue as now.
  • Refugees themselves will also be able to apply for some benefits and can take up employment.
  • You need to let Keniston know if you intend to host someone though the scheme, so we can provide the appropriate consent, ensure the accommodation is suitable, and connect people up with the right support.

If you have a question about whether your home is suitable, please email enquiries@kenistonha.co.uk or phone 01689 889700.
