Going green at Keniston
Keniston has a number of eco friendly initiatives designed to reduce waste and CO2.

We want to reduce waste and CO2 as much as possible but sometimes the cost of the technology or the way of being “green” is more than we think we can afford.

Nevertheless we do the following:
Ÿ
install minimum A rated boilers when we upgrade heating installations
Ÿ
use water saving fittings in bathroom refurbishments
Ÿ
insulate lofts in houses to at least 150mm
Ÿ
encourage and facilitate recycling initiatives where we can.

We have also
Ÿ
installed a pilot solar thermal installation for gas central heating
Ÿ
have the facility for and encourage 2 sided printing
Ÿ
distributed low energy light bulbs and “power down” devices
Ÿ
cut down on duplicate magazines and printed materials
Ÿ
used the Building Research Establishment’s “Eco Homes XB” tool to help establish priorities for action
Ÿ
contracted for recycling paper in the office

In conjunction with architects Broadway Malyon, we have won government funding to achieve an 80% reduction in CO2 in a single house. This includes the installation of photovoltaic cells, a ground source heat pump, low volume radiators, new appliances and triple glazing. The energy use of this and all the selected properties funded in this way will be monitored independently over a 2 year period so that a report on the effectiveness of different CO2 reducing measures can be assessed. This installation is taking place in 2010.

Finally we have two hybrid vehicles and one low emission diesel van.
