Keniston Housing Association
Renting a house or flat from Keniston
Most lettings are to people on council waiting lists but you can apply direct for a sheltered flat.
If you are over 55 and want to rent sheltered or other accommodation for older people, you can apply direct to Keniston. For more information about Keniston’s sheltered schemes, click here.
Applications are accepted for sheltered flats; these are for over 55s where there is an emergency alarm and with a Scheme Manager. Many of these are “studio” or “bedsitter” flats, which are completely self contained with separate kitchen and bathroom and one room for living and sleeping in. Vacant flats occur from time to time in Farnborough, Crawley and Sidcup.
Keyworkers
We make a small number of vacant properties available each year to key workers, mainly in our schemes in Farnborough (Kent) and in Bexley. These are usually studio or bedsitter flats. Keyworkers wanting accommodation should phone to enquire about applying direct to the Association, but please note that sometimes we may close the waiting list.
Other keyworker properties can be accessed on the keyworker web site www.keyworker-homes.co.uk.
Annual lettings
Keniston has about 40 to 50 lettings a year. These are dependent on existing tenants leaving their properties so it is impossible to predict where and when a property of a particular size and location will come up. Most of the lettings Keniston makes are made to either local authorities or to voluntary referral agencies with whom Keniston has an established arrangement for offering lettings.
Therefore if you specifically want to apply to rent a Keniston property, apart from the circumstances above, you normally have to do so through your local authority or through one of the agencies Keniston deals with.
