About the sheltered housing flats at Tarling Close, Sidcup

Two buildings comprising 34 self contained sheltered flats in their own cul de sac. One block is serviced by a lift. There are 13 studio flats, 20 one bedroom flats and the scheme manager’s flat. The studio flats have a separate bathroom and kitchen with combined living room/bedroom. Heating and hot water is provided by a communal system; cooking is electric only and the flats are let unfurnished.

Location The flats are situated about half a mile from Sidcup shopping centre and about a mile from the railway station. They are ideal for older people who want to remain independent.

Stephanie is the scheme manager for the flats at Tarling Close. She is on duty Monday to Friday during the day and lives in one of the blocks. She is supported by Donna who works at the weekends. Each flat has a warden call alarm system that can be used in an emergency to call for help. The call will either go through to Stephanie or to a call centre. Residents can then speak direct to someone to explain what the problem is and to ask for assistance. Stephanie also organises a number of social activities and trips.

Facilities There is a communal lounge and guest room so that relatives and friends can stay overnight when they visit you. The guest room needs to be booked in advance; a small charge is made for using it.

Weekly charges The weekly charge includes rent, service charge, heating, hot water and a support charge. The service charge includes the costs of services such as lighting to communal areas, gardening, cleaning of communal areas, lift and furnishings in a communal lounge. The support charge covers the costs of the scheme manager and the emergency alarm system. If you are in receipt of income support or on a low income you may be entitled to help to pay the rent, service charge and/or support charge.

If you would like more information, would like to visit the scheme or would like to apply for a flat at Tarling Close please either phone 01689 889700 and ask for a member of staff in the housing management team or email enquiries@kenistonha.co.uk. Offers of accommodation are usually made to people who have some kind of need for housing or reason to move. If there are no suitable vacancies you may be put on a waiting list.
