The Tenant Services Authority regulates housing associations to protect the public purse and maintain an excellent reputation nationally.
Keniston is registered with a government body called the Tenant Services Authority (the TSA). From 1 December 2008 the TSA has been responsible for regulating social housing. The funding of new homes is carried out through the Homes and Communities Agency (the HCA). Periodically Associations are “inspected” by the Audit Commission. Inspectors who visit Associations often include tenant inspectors. This is a very thorough review of the operational and governance matters, and the end report includes recommendations for improvements. Inspectors look for a culture of continuous improvement. You can read inspection reports on the Audit Commission website. Associations with fewer than 1,000 units do not fall into the routine programme of inspection, so there is no inspection planned for Keniston. The Housing Corporation, the previous regulator of housing associations, published short written reports on individual associations called Housing Corporation Assessments. You can see what the Housing Corporation said about Keniston by clicking here for the link to the Housing Corporation web site and selecting Keniston from the alphabetical list. You can find out more about the Tenant Services Authority at www.tenantservicesauthority.org. In addition, a further annual return has to be made to the Financial Services Authority (mutuals section) which regulates Industrial and Provident Societies. Keniston is also a member of the National Housing Federation which is a membership organisation representing and lobbying on behalf of its 1400 plus housing association members in the country.
